The Kia Sportage was manufactured in 1995 as a compact SUV. Although it was a first car in this type, it was considered to be very small and underpowered to complement the spacious interiors, and many car-like Subaru and Toyota dropped into the markets shortly thereafter.
Kia Sportage
The traditional Sportage was produced with a 2.0-liter single-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine to deliver 94 hp. It had standard rear wheel drive, connected with 5-speed manual transmission.

Kia also provided a part-time four-wheel drive version of the standard trim level. The 4×4 Sportage was developed with a twin-cam 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that could produce 139 horsepower.

Among all EX was the top-lined trim that was fully equipped and designed with four wheel drive that had a powerful engine. On all the four-wheel drive models, a 4-speed automatic transmission was optional.

Changes in 1997 Sporage


Prior to 1997, the Kia Sportage was included with a single-cam engine and that was eliminated from next model. From 1997, the vehicle contained a double cam engine that rated for 130 horsepower. In the same year, the Kia started providing the 4-speed automatic transmission on all two wheel drive versions.

Current Generation



The Current generation corresponds to the 2nd generation that was prefaced for 2005. For the new generation, the Kia Sportage is featured with a unibody platform that is similar plat form to the Hyundai Tuscon. From the time of introduction, the Kia Sportage has not undergone any major modifications.

The Kia Sportage is a small size SUV produced in two trims EX and LX. The Sportage provides one kind of refinement and performance generally connected with the compact SUVs from Japanese automobile manufacturers. Both trims are packed with an impressive list of traditional features. They are

The Kia Sportage may not look big from outside, but they see the interior, they can find lot of legroom and headroom, both at the back and the front. The back seats has fold and flat behavior for cargo floor and it contains 67 cubic feet of storage. Finish and fit is attractive, and the Sportage offers an amazing number of security and safety features in its class.

Total there are six traditional air bags, incorporating side and front impact airbags for passenger and driver, and side curtain airbags for rear and front seat occupants. All trims are equipped with

• four-wheel antilock disc brakes and
• Traction control as standard features.

The trim LX is featured with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that can deliver 140 horsepower. It is produced with traditional 5-speed manual transmission, but you get an optional 4-speed automatic transmission too.

Most of the Sportage models are designed with front-wheel drive pattern, but Kia offers four wheel driving pattern on manual transmission packed models too. For improving the Sportage LX, Kia has provided a 2.7-liter V6 engine that pumps out 173 hp, whereas the trim EX is available with V6 engine only.
